Weld defect (BS EN ISO 6520-1: 2007):

“An unacceptable imperfection”

Imperfection (BS EN ISO 6520-1: 2007):

“A discontinuity in the weld or a deviation from the intended geometry”

Weld defect (American):

“A discontinuity the size, shape, orientation or location of which makes it detrimental to the useful service of the part in which it occurs, i.e. a discontinuity out of specification.”

Discontinuity (American):

“Any interruption in the normal physical structure or configuration of a part, such as cracks, lack of fusion, inclusions or porosity. A discontinuity may or may not affect the usefulness of a part.”
